This Privacy Policy describes how Handla Mat Smart ("the App", "we", "us", or "our"), developed by Hjelm.co, handles information when you use our iOS application. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our practices.

The short version: Handla Mat Smart does not collect, transmit, or store any of your personal data on external servers. Everything stays on your device.

1. Information We Do NOT Collect

Handla Mat Smart is designed with a privacy-first architecture. We do not collect, transmit, or have access to:

  • Your shopping lists or their contents
  • Photos you take within the App
  • Voice recordings or transcriptions
  • Your name, email address, or any account information
  • Your location data
  • Device identifiers or advertising IDs
  • Usage analytics or behavioral data

The App does not require an account, login, or registration of any kind.

2. Data Stored on Your Device

The App stores the following data locally on your iPhone using Apple's on-device storage framework (SwiftData):

  • Shopping lists: The lists you create, including item names, categories, and completion status.
  • List history: Previously completed lists for the "Shop again" feature.
  • Category preferences: When you manually change an item's category, the App remembers this to improve future categorization for you.
  • App settings: Your preferences and configuration within the App.

This data is stored exclusively on your device. We have no ability to access, read, or retrieve it. You can delete all App data at any time by deleting the App from your device.

3. Device Permissions

The App may request the following device permissions. Each permission is requested only when you initiate the relevant feature, never at first launch:

3.1 Camera

Used to photograph your handwritten shopping lists. Photos are processed entirely on-device using Apple Vision framework for text recognition (OCR). Photos are not stored by the App after processing and are never transmitted to any server.

3.2 Photo Library

Used to import existing photos of shopping lists from your photo library. The same on-device processing applies — imported images are processed locally and not transmitted anywhere.

3.3 Microphone

Used for voice input when adding items to your shopping list. Speech is processed entirely on-device using Apple Speech framework (SFSpeechRecognizer). Audio is not recorded, stored, or transmitted to any server.

You can revoke any of these permissions at any time through your iPhone's Settings app. The App will continue to function — you simply won't be able to use the specific feature that requires the permission.

4. On-Device Processing

All data processing in Handla Mat Smart happens locally on your device:

  • Text recognition (OCR): Powered by Apple Vision framework, running entirely on-device.
  • Speech recognition: Powered by Apple Speech framework with the Swedish language model, running entirely on-device.
  • Item categorization: Uses an on-device lookup table and learning model. No cloud AI services are used.

No data is sent to our servers or any third-party servers for processing. The App functions fully offline.

5. Third-Party Services

Handla Mat Smart does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. Specifically, the App does not use:

  • Analytics SDKs (e.g., Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, Mixpanel)
  • Crash reporting services
  • Advertising networks or ad SDKs
  • Social media SDKs
  • Any cloud-based AI or machine learning services

The only platform services used are Apple's built-in on-device frameworks (Vision and Speech), which process data locally and are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

Since all data is stored locally on your device:

  • Retention: Your data remains on your device for as long as you have the App installed. You can delete individual lists at any time within the App.
  • Deletion: Deleting the App from your device permanently removes all associated data. There is no data on our servers to delete because we never collect any.

7. Children's Privacy

The App does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in relevant jurisdictions). Since no data is collected or transmitted, the App is safe for use by people of all ages.

8. GDPR Compliance (European Users)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies. Because Handla Mat Smart does not collect, process, or store any personal data on external servers, most GDPR obligations regarding data controller/processor relationships do not apply.

Your data remains entirely under your control on your own device. You can exercise your right to erasure at any time by deleting the App or individual lists within the App.

9. CCPA Compliance (California Users)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) provides you with specific rights regarding your personal information.

We do not collect, sell, or share personal information. Since no personal information is collected by the App, there is no data to disclose, delete, or opt out of selling.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy. If we make material changes that affect how the App handles your data, we will provide notice through an App update.
